20 Years, 20 Questions: Reintroducing Pro-Vigil as a Physical Security and Remote Video Monitoring Pioneer

Celebrate 20 years of Pro-Vigil. Get answers to frequently asked questions and see how remote video monitoring has evolved since 2006!

It’s been twenty amazing years providing the best-in class in remote video monitoring (RVM), but a lot has changed since we first came onto the scene in 2006. And we’ve had plenty of questions in that time. So, for those who’ve known us since the beginning and for those who are hearing about us for the first time, here are some of the most frequently asked questions…and a little reintroduction to Pro-Vigil during our 20th year of operations!

Reintroducing Pro-Vigil

  1. Who is Pro-Vigil?

A: Pro-Vigil is a provider of AI-enabled remote video monitoring (RVM) solutions focused on helping businesses prevent theft and vandalism using trained remote guards, audio and visual deterrents, and a reliable, layered security system that stops crime.

  1. What problem was Pro-Vigil founded to solve?

A: I founded Pro-Vigil was founded in 2006 by Jeremy White with the goal of delivering surveillance as a service, offering businesses an alternative to avoid pricey upfront costs in equipment and installation. Pro-Vigil’s story is tied to the evolution of RVM itself: from watching to connecting to understanding to preventing. Pro-Vigil’s been on the forefront of moving from passive surveillance to active prevention

  1. What types of businesses does Pro-Vigil protect?

A: Pro-Vigil serves industries with high exposure to theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, and after-hours risk, such as construction, dealerships, logistics and freight, critical infrastructure, oil and gas, manufacturing, solar farms, etc. Pro-Vigil helps provide round-the-clock surveillance and prevention for remote areas that are hardhad to reach and centrally located businesses with exposed inventory.

  1. What are the two different RVM solutions Pro-Vigil provides?

A: Pro-Vigil offers two types of RVM solutions: fixed and mobile security systems. A fixed security system refers to equipment that’s permanently installed on a property. A fixed system is typically best for businesses or properties that have stable access to electricity and wifi, so the cameras can be hard-wired on-site.

Mobile security systems are intended for sites without stable access to electricity or wifi, such as early-stage construction sites. The mobile systems are solar-powered and also work well for short-term or temporary security solutions.

What’s Changed in Physical Security?

  1. How has physical security changed over the last 20 years?

A: Twenty years ago, systems were largely designed to record what happened (think CCTV). Today, effective physical security strategies should help identify threats, verify what’s happening, deter bad actors, and escalate—if necessary—as soon as possible.

  1. Why are cameras no longer enough on their own?

A: Footage is important, but footage after the fact is only helpful in submitting a police report or an insurance claim. Footage doesn’t prevent damage, theft, or downtime. Modern security is turning video into action.

  1. How does Pro-Vigil provide “proactive” crime prevention?

A: Proactive crime prevention means detecting suspicious activity early, using AI to filter and scan footage, routing real threats to trained remote monitoring professionals, triggering deterrents, and escalating when necessary. This is how Pro-Vigil operates, utilizing Pro-Safe™.

  1. Why is RVM important for businesses today?

A: RVM gives businesses off-site visibility and action when no one is on-site or during off-hours. At Pro-Vigil, Pro-Fit™ ensures camera health and uptime so equipment issues can be addressed immediatelyimmediatley, and Pro-View™ gives businesses access to their live camera feeds and recorded footage anytime and anywhere.

Looking Closely at RVM

  1. What is RVM?

A: Pro-Vigil’s RVM solutions bring together connected cameras, AI, and off-site monitoring professionals to identify and respond to suspicious activity in real time, to deter and prevent theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity.

  1. How is RVM different from traditional CCTV?

A: CCTV often records footage for later review. RVM, as used by Pro-Vigil, is designed to help detect activity, verify immediate threats, trigger audio or visual deterrents, and escalate to a human monitor for further action while an incident is unfolding.

  1. What happens when suspicious activity is detected?

A: It begins with motion detection. Immediately, AI analyzesis analyzing the footage; potential threats are then routed to remote monitors at Pro-Vigil’s security operations center (SOC). The monitors can trigger deterrents once a threat is confirmed. If necessary, they will also contact the authorities and the customer.

  1. How does Pro-Vigil deter intruders?

A: Pro-Vigil uses real-time audio and visual deterrents to ward off an intruder before they can complete a crime. This escalation process helps deter 97% of intruders on the first attempt.

How Pro-Vigil Uses AI, Human Verification, and Smarter Security

  1. Where does AI fit into physical security?

A: AI processes the vast amount of video Pro-Vigil records every day (over 80 million video clips a month). It detects patterns, identifies potential threats, reduces noise, and routes the potential events to the right people. While customers never “see” AI in action, it helps our teams behind the scenes protect more sites at once and more accurately detect and deter crime.

  1. Does AI replace human monitoring teams?

A: No. AI helps identify and prioritize events so that human monitors can focus on deterrence and escalation, as necessary. Human expertise still matters for verification, judgment, escalation, and customer-specific protocols.

  1. How does AI help reduce false alarms?

A: AI helps distinguish between harmless movement and suspicious activity. That way, human monitors can focus on events that are more likely to matter instead of treating every motion trigger as an emergency.

  1. Can AI-powered video monitoring support more than security?

A: Yes. AI-enabled RVM can support compliance, workflow visibility, traffic patterns, bottleneck detection, license plate recognition, perimeter breach detection, heatmapping, and anomaly detection.

Reliability, Visibility, and the Future with Pro-Vigil

  1. What happens if a camera goes offline?

A: A security system only works if it is online. Pro-Fit™ continuously monitors site equipment, attempts to self-heal devices, auto-generates support tickets, enables remote troubleshooting, and schedules field service when needed. Camera uptime is a security system bottom line.

  1. Can customers access their own footage and system information?

A: Yes! Pro-View™ gives customers access to their system from anywhere, including live video, historical footage, monitoring protocols, activity scheduling, reports, and arm/disarm controls.

  1. What should businesses look for in an RVM partner?

A: Businesses should look for a partner that can support site design, AI-powered detection, trained human monitoring, real-time deterrence, customer-specific escalation (following your protocols), law enforcement notification, system health monitoring, and customer access to footage and reporting.

  1. What will define the next 20 years of physical security?

A: The future won’t be defined by who records the most video. It will be defined by those who turn video into faster decisions, more robust deterrence, fewer false alarms, more reliable systems, and—most importantly—fewer incidents.
