If a picture’s worth a thousand words, then what’s a clip of video worth? It’s difficult to measure the impact that surveillance cameras have on physical security. Cameras are capable of ingesting enormous amounts of data, but like any kind of data, it’s what you do with it that makes a difference.
Which brings us to this point – security cameras on their own are not enough. An organization can purchase the latest and greatest high-definition cameras recording footage around the clock. However, if no one is watching that footage and able to detect and respond to suspicious activity – ideally as it happens – does any of this matter?
Cameras Aren’t Enough
Pro-Vigil believes in a simple fact: unmonitored cameras are not security. We aren’t in the business of selling as many pieces of hardware to as many businesses as possible. We win by getting “left of theft,” or stopping crime before it happens, not selling cameras.
Gone are the days of record-and-store cameras that captured hours or days’ worth of footage for review after a crime has occurred. The impact of a single physical security incident, whether it be monetary, project delays, or brand damage, is too risky to leave up to chance. Reviewing security footage after the fact does very little to help or stop criminals from striking again.
Monitoring Makes the Difference
That’s why monitoring is a must – and where Pro-Vigil excels. Your job is not to be a security expert or to watch an endless amount of video feeds. It’s to run your business. To make sure that happens, Pro-Vigil deploys a mix of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled remote video monitoring (RVM) and real people. Here’s how it works:
- Picture this – it’s 2:30 am and a camera records someone crossing a construction site, heading toward valuable equipment left out overnight.
- Because our AI can be trained to spot suspicious behavior for this specific site, this event is deemed unusual and an alert is sent to Pro-Vigil’s Surveillance Operations Center (SOC) where one of our trained virtual guards reviews the footage remotely.
- If it’s determined that the person shouldn’t be there, the virtual guard can activate deterrents like loud sirens and pre-recorded messages warning that person they are trespassing and it’s time to leave. Strobe lights paired with these announcements are extremely effective and often send would-be criminals running before any damage is done or police need to be contacted.
The steps outlined above are simply not possible with a set of surveillance cameras and no live monitoring. Who is watching for suspicious behavior? What actions can they take if they identify a threat? Pro-Vigil takes the guessing out of security and puts crime prevention into action.
