In our latest poll, we found that most companies use security methods with one glaring issue – there’s not much security involved. Having a crime documented doesn’t necessarily make you more secure. This leaves businesses open to tremendous risk.
The majority (53%) of respondents said they rely on CCTV surveillance cameras or alarm systems to secure their business.
CCTV is a system of surveillance cameras that records and stores video. Unfortunately, no one is watching those feeds in real-time. Furthermore, the video may not be viewed at all.
At which point it serves more as a documentation method. A crime might be caught on camera but by the time anyone finds it on the feed, the criminals are long gone – with your inventory. No one is actively deterring crimes before they happen.
Businesses that rely on cameras alone to protect their business add more responsibility to their plate. They end up being tasked with monitoring the camera streams or suffering the consequences with no real way to stop crime. Who has time for that?
Even the traditional monitored alarm systems can leave you making ill-informed decisions if you don’t have immediate access to a camera feed. Was the alarm falsely triggered? Do authorities need to be sent?

Having a clear and defined barrier around your business is a great security measure to have in place. However, it has its shortcomings. Fences can be cut, jumped over, and even driven through.
