We’re continuing our LinkedIn flash poll series to stay on top of the latest trends in physical security today. In our latest poll, we found that most companies use security methods with one glaring issue – there’s not much security involved. Having a crime documented doesn’t necessarily make you more secure. This leaves businesses open to tremendous risk.
The majority (53%) of respondents said they rely on CCTV surveillance cameras or alarm systems to secure their business.
CCTV is a system of surveillance cameras that records and stores video. Unfortunately, no one is watching those feeds in real-time. Furthermore, the video may not be viewed at all.
At which point it serves more as a documentation method. A crime might be caught on camera but by the time anyone finds it on the feed, the criminals are long gone – with your inventory. No one is actively deterring crimes before they happen.
Businesses that rely on cameras alone to protect their business add more responsibility to their plate. They end up being tasked with monitoring the camera streams or suffering the consequences with no real way to stop crime. Who has time for that?
Even the traditional monitored alarm systems can leave you making ill-informed decisions if you don’t have immediate access to a camera feed. Was the alarm falsely triggered? Do authorities need to be sent?
7% of those polled said they use fencing and/or security guards to keep everything under control at their company.
Having a clear and defined barrier around your business is a great security measure to have in place. However, it has its shortcomings. Fences can be cut, jumped over, and even driven through.
Security guards patrolling the area certainly serve as a crime deterrent, but they can’t be everywhere or see everything at once. Having security guards is most effective when they are used in conjunction with a video surveillance solution.
7% of those polled said they don’t secure their business at all. Need we say more?
All efforts toward securing your business are steps in the right direction. But some methods fall short of the most secure options available to you. 33% of those polled said they use remote video monitoring (RVM) to secure their business – and we think they’re making the right choice!
Remote video monitoring is the optimal solution to securing your business because a team of physical security guards can actively watch your site from anywhere.
Pro-Vigil combines RVM with our AI-driven cameras to flag suspicious activity and takes the appropriate steps to deter crime before it happens. This can include playing a message over loudspeakers, deploying lights and sirens, or even calling local police.
The best part is – this solution requires very little-to-no involvement from you so you can focus on running your business.
