2021 Physical Security Landscape

After weathering unprecedented disruptions and losses in 2020, businesses looked forward to finally moving past the pandemic in 2021.

But the pandemic didn’t end, and neither did its effect on companies. National staffing shortages, limited hours of operation and closures, supply chain issues and more continued to wreak havoc, leaving business and their properties, inventory and assets vulnerable to crime.

As a follow up to our first survey of businesses when the pandemic began in 2020, we polled 116 business managers across a range of industries to understand how their physical security challenges and strategies have evolved in 2021, amid the ongoing pandemic.

Security Survey Results

Here’s a snapshot of what we found:

  • 28% of respondents saw an increase in physical security incidents in 2021. That’s up from just 20% of respondents in 2020.

  • Nearly 27% of respondents said they expect security incidents to increase even more in 2022.

  • Even with security incidents rising year-over-year, nearly 57% of respondents said they have not updated their security strategies.

  • 39% of respondents said supply chain challenges were the top reason for increased security incidents.

That’s just a sampling of the results. To read the complete research report, “The State of Physical Security Entering 2022,” click below.
