Video Verification

Remote Video Monitoring (RVM)

Video verification is the practice of confirming an alarm event visually, via camera footage, before determining what response it warrants. Rather than treating every sensor trigger as equally urgent, a monitoring operator reviews the associated video to distinguish a genuine intrusion from a false alarm before dispatching law enforcement.

This distinction matters operationally and financially. Many jurisdictions have adopted verified response policies, in which police departments prioritize or exclusively respond to alarms accompanied by video or audio confirmation of criminal activity, deprioritizing unverified sensor-only alerts. For a property owner, this typically translates into faster response when something real is happening, and considerably less exposure to the false alarm fees municipalities charge for dispatches that turn out to be nothing.

Video verification depends on cameras being positioned to actually capture the areas where sensors are placed, along with monitoring staff trained to assess footage quickly and accurately under time pressure. A sensor with no corresponding camera coverage can’t be verified, regardless of how sophisticated the rest of the system is.
