A security operations center is a centralized facility where trained personnel monitor camera feeds, sensor alerts, and other security data across one or more properties, coordinating an appropriate response as events occur. The term is used broadly across the security industry and can refer to anything from a single-site monitoring room to a large facility overseeing hundreds of properties simultaneously.
A SOC’s core functions typically include real-time review of AI-flagged events across the monitored camera network, and coordination between operators, on-site contacts, and law enforcement according to defined escalation protocols.
The effectiveness of a SOC depends heavily on the quality of the analytics feeding it. Without AI filtering upstream, operators face an unmanageable volume of raw alerts; with it, operator attention is concentrated on the events most likely to represent genuine activity.
