License plate recognition is a technology that uses cameras and optical character recognition software to automatically read and log the license plates of vehicles passing through a monitored area. - Access control at gated facilities, where entry can be granted or denied based on plate recognition
- Incident investigation, where a timestamped vehicle log provides a starting point for identifying who was on-site and when
- Behavioral pattern detection, where the same unrecognized vehicle appearing multiple times over a short period may indicate surveillance activity ahead of a theft attempt
- Unauthorized dumping deterrence at sites like scrap yards and industrial facilities, where vehicle identification creates accountability for what arrives and when
LPR is most commonly mounted at entry and exit points and is designed to operate continuously across varying lighting and weather conditions.
